FOOTWEAR WITH NATURAL RUBBER FROM THE AMAZON
Save the Forest sneakers use natural rubber from the Amazon.. Natural rubber, or latex, extracted from the trunk of the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis, known as seringueira) by tapping the tree's bark, is a product that symbolizes the Amazon and is responsible for bringing many people to the region. This is a traditional activity performed by extractivists, also known as seringueiros, and by Indigenous peoples, who, to extract natural rubber, travel along the "seringa roads", paths in the forest that lead to the rubber trees. Forest peoples use natural rubber to manufacture rubberized bags ( encauchados) and utensils for personal use and sale. Natural rubber, originating from ethical commercial relationships rooted in transparency and traceability, is a versatile product that can be used to manufacture a wide variety of products.
