ALPARGATA KAYAPÓ
Kayapó espadrilles hand-painted by Kayapó Mekrãgnoti women. The Kayapó espadrilles are hand-painted by Kayapó women from villages in the Baú and Mekrãgnoti Indigenous lands within the Xingu Territory. The espadrilles are made by Perky, a company from Rio Grande do Sul, and are made with recycled raw materials with low environmental impact. The designs made by the Kayapó women, whether on their bodies or fabric, are called 'ôk'. The Kayapó artists develop their designs by capturing and reinventing elements of their cosmology, such as animals and plants, with each work reflecting collective knoweldge and the individual creativity of those who produced it, making each Kayapó espadrille unique and original.
