Óleo de Copaíba
Copaiba oil The Copaiba Oil from the quilombolas of Oriximiná represents their close relationship with their territory and reflects the appreciation of biodiversity by quilombola culture. For generations, Indigenous peoples and traditional populations, like extractivists and quilombolas, have extracted the oil from the trunk of the copaiba tree (*Copaifera langsdorffii*), a tree native to the Amazon, to use it for medicinal purposes such as anti-inflammation and healing. The extraction is done by drilling the trunk carefully to avoid harming the tree, and the hole is soon sealed to aid the tree's healing process. To find copaiba trees with oil, forest peoples walk for days through the forest, thus contributing to territorial monitoring. This traditional activity is the product of a deep connection that these people maintain with the forest, passing on the knowledge of copaiba use and extraction from generation to generation. Copaiba oil is used by the pharmaceutical industry in different chemical compositions and as a color and scent fixative in perfumes.
