Teçume Craft
Teçume, which are items made with braided straw, is produced by artisans from the Amanã Sustainable Development Reserve in the Solimões Territory. The production of crafts using cauaçu palm fiber (Calathea lutea), as well as the plants used for dyeing, is part of the traditional knowledge of women in the region, who use this raw material to create different artifactsartifacts for domestic use. A study conducted by the Mamirauá Institute defined a set of good management practices for the species to ensure its continuity. Teçume production for the market is part of a political empowerment and income generation strategy for the women artisans of the Amanã Sustainable Development Reserve.
