Menire Xikrin Bag
Bags hand-painted by the women of the Mẽbengôkre-Xikrin people of the Trincheira-Bacajá Indigenous land in the Xingu Territory, Amazon. On the fabric, the Indigenous women create designs that capture and reinvent elements of their cosmology, such as animals and plants. Each work reflects both collective knowledge and the individual creativity of the person who made it. Traditionally painted on the body, the Mẽbengôkre-Xikrin women began painting on fabric as an alternative source of income and to promote Indigenous art.
