Xikrin Craft
The art of the Xikrin people from the Trincheira Bacajá Indigenous Territory reveals significant traits of an ancient culture that originated from body painting and is now materialized in canvases, bags, dresses, and bead adornments. Xikrin craftsmanship demonstrates the culture and knowledge passed down from generation to generation. Graphic art is a way for the menire (Xikrin women) to showcase the meaningful traits of an ancient culture, which originated from body painting traditionally done with genipap, charcoal, and annatto, revealing part of the aesthetic beauty and way of life of the Xikrin people.
