BRAZIL NUT
The collection of Brazil nuts (Bertholletia excelsa) is a traditional activity of the Kayapó people, which represents not only an opportunity for sustainable income but also a way to promote and value Kayapó culture. The Brazil nut, also known as the Amazon nut or Pará nut, is the seed of the Brazil nut tree, a native Amazon tree that can reach up to 147 ft in height. The collection of Brazil nuts is a traditional activity carried out by Indigenous and traditional populations during the rainy season in the Amazon. Groups spend many consecutive days in the forest, setting up camp among the trees and patrolling a large area, thus contributing to territorial monitoring while generating income and protecting the territory.
